Start with these three questions

How many days can you give the trek, including arrival and transfers? How far do you regularly walk on consecutive days? And do you want village life, a dramatic gorge or high mountain scenery? Answering these is more useful than choosing the most famous name first.

Compare the full itinerary, not just the headline distance. Some days are mainly transfers; others involve sustained climbing. A 5 km mountain day can be harder than a longer valley walk. On our routes, walking difficulty is graded separately from altitude.

For village culture and caravan roads

Shaxi combines old caravan paths, Bai villages and the Shibaoshan area. Its 39 km are spread across a five-day itinerary. It suits travellers who want walking and cultural stops to carry equal weight.

Nujiang has a shorter published walking distance and a lower maximum altitude than the high mountain routes, with village walks and sections of cliff-side caravan road. Lower altitude does not remove the need to be comfortable with the terrain. Confirm the collection point and transfers with us before booking onward travel.

Baoshan Stone City is a four-day route with 32 km of walking and hand-cut cliff tunnels. Baisha and Jade Dragon is the shortest itinerary at three days, but still reaches 3,100 m.

For a first gorge trek or higher mountains

Tiger Leaping Gorge is a four-day itinerary with 25 km of walking, graded moderate. Consider it if you want a famous landscape and can manage consecutive walking days with real climbing.

Yubeng has 56 km of walking over a six-day itinerary and reaches 3,900 m. Haba Base Camp reaches 4,500 m, while Heart of Kawagarbo includes remote camping. These three routes are graded challenging. Read each day’s profile and overnight arrangements before deciding.

Read the price and departure details together

Published prices are indicative per-person starting prices in US dollars, sharing a twin room. Group size, dates and rooming affect the final quotation. Scheduled departures are proposed dates, subject to written availability confirmation; private departures are available from two hikers.

Send us your available dates, usual walking distances and preferred scenery. We can then discuss the route and group format. For medical or altitude suitability, seek qualified medical advice rather than relying on a route’s grade.
