1. Who we are

China Hike is a brand of Beijing Seeker Adventure International Travel Agency Co., Ltd.. China Hike ("we", "us") designs and operates small-group trekking trips across China; in these terms, "we" and "us" mean Beijing Seeker Adventure International Travel Agency Co., Ltd., trading as China Hike, as the operator of your trek. Where these terms refer to writing, that includes email and WhatsApp message.

Trekking in China is regulated, and we operate under a Chinese travel agency licence: Beijing MCT Tourism Licence No. L-BJ05096 (domestic and inbound tourism), issued by the Beijing Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau. It is what allows us to arrange the ground services on your trek — guides, vehicles, permits, accommodation and park entry — lawfully inside China.

Our registration number in China's national business register is 91110302MA01GP6E6M, the company was registered in 2019 (our team has been guiding in these mountains for more than ten years), and both records can be checked yourself at gsxt.gov.cn, the register run by China's State Administration for Market Regulation. We give you these because anyone can print a licence number on a website; the point is that you can verify ours without asking us.

If you need the licence itself for a visa application, a travel insurance policy or a corporate booking, ask us and we will send it over.

2. Booking and contract

An enquiry, a provisional hold and a quotation are not a booking. A contract arises only when three things have happened: we have confirmed availability and the final price to you in writing; you have paid the deposit; and we have acknowledged the booking in writing. Until then either side may walk away without liability.

The person making the booking confirms that they are at least 18 years old and that they have authority to accept these terms on behalf of everyone named on the booking. The lead name is our point of contact for the whole party, and any notice we send to that person counts as notice to all of them.

3. What we provide

  • The itinerary as described on your trek's page, delivered with an English-speaking local guide.
  • Accommodation, meals, ground transport, permits and entry fees as listed under "Included" on that page.
  • A group of no more than 6 hikers.
  • Safety equipment as described on the Safety & FAQ page.

Anything not listed under "Included" is not part of the contract. International flights, visas, travel to and from the meeting point, personal equipment, drinks outside meals, tips and personal insurance are excluded.

4. What you are responsible for

  • Holding your own travel insurance for the journey to and from China and for anything you plan either side of the trek. Trekking and medical cover for the trek itself is arranged by us and included in the price — see Safety & FAQ.
  • Holding a valid passport and any visa required. We advise on visa questions but the document is yours.
  • Being honest about your fitness and medical history. Our grades are published; if you book above your level and the group has to slow down or turn back, that is on the booking, not on us.
  • Following your guide's instructions. On the trail the guide's decision is final, including turning back.
  • Respecting local culture and places. Including religious sites, where we ask you to follow the guide's guidance on photography and conduct.
  • Behaving safely towards the group. We may remove from a trek, without refund, any hiker whose behaviour puts themselves or others at risk, or seriously disrupts the group.

5. Fitness and medical

Our routes are graded 1–3, and the definitions are published on every trek page together with each route's maximum altitude, which is shown separately. You confirm you can meet the grade and the altitude of the route you booked. We ask for a medical and fitness disclosure after booking; if something in it makes us think the route is wrong for you, we will tell you and propose an alternative, or decline the booking with a full refund.

Some routes pass through high altitude. Hikers with a cardiac or respiratory condition, a previous severe altitude reaction, or relevant medication must disclose it before booking. Where a disclosed condition cannot be safely accommodated, we will decline the booking and refund in full rather than take the risk.

6. Prices and payment

Prices quoted on this site are indicative — the lowest per-person price, sharing a twin room, in US dollars (single-room supplement extra), inclusive of applicable taxes. The final price depends on group size, dates and rooming, and is confirmed in writing before you pay. Once confirmed in writing, the price is fixed except where a government fee or tax rate changes, or where a pricing error is obvious and material and we tell you before you pay.

The deposit, the balance and how to pay are set out on our Cancellation & Refunds page, which forms part of these terms.

7. Cancellation and changes

Cancellation by you, cancellation or amendment by us, and the effect of force majeure are dealt with in full on the Cancellation & Refunds page. The refund ladder there governs every booking and is not repeated here.

Where a change we make materially reduces what you booked, you may cancel and receive a full refund. Where a change is minor — a different guesthouse of the same standard, a reordered day, a substituted viewpoint — you may not cancel for a refund, but we will tell you as soon as we know.

8. Liability

We are liable for the services we provide being delivered with reasonable skill and care. We are not liable for:

  • Injury or loss arising from your own negligence, or from not following your guide's instructions.
  • Pre-existing medical conditions, or altitude illness where you did not disclose a relevant history.
  • Delays, closures or changes caused by weather, government action, road conditions or force majeure.
  • Loss of or damage to your personal belongings.
  • Indirect or consequential loss, such as missed flights or lost holiday time.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Subject to the paragraph above, our total liability arising out of or in connection with a booking is limited to the total price paid by the hiker for the trek concerned. We are not liable for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when the booking was made.

Where we use suppliers — guesthouses, transport operators, permit offices — we select them with care, but we are not responsible for their independent acts or omissions beyond our own obligations under these terms.

9. Events outside our control

Where a booking is affected by government restriction, natural disaster, epidemic, landslide, road closure or any other event outside the control of both parties, we refund all sums recoverable from our suppliers, and any balance that cannot be recovered is credited against a future trek for 18 months. We do not accept liability for additional costs you incur, such as flight changes, and this is one reason we recommend your own travel insurance.

10. Complaints

Tell your guide first — most things are fixable on the spot. If it is not resolved, email chinahiketravel@gmail.com within 30 days of your trek ending and we will respond in writing within 14 days. We will not treat a complaint as waived because you did not raise it during the trek, but raising it early usually solves it.

11. Use of this website

The content of this site — text, photographs, route descriptions, maps and design — belongs to China Hike or is used with permission. You may read it, print it and share links for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not republish it, sell it, use it to train or populate another service, or present it as your own.

You must not use this site in a way that damages it or interferes with anyone else's use of it, attempt to gain access to restricted areas, or run automated collection against it without our written consent.

We keep route information as accurate as we can, but mountain conditions, prices and schedules change. The site is provided as it stands, and the binding description of a trek is the itinerary we send you in writing.

12. Content you send us

If you send us photographs, video or written feedback, you keep the copyright. You give us permission to use that material on this site and on our social channels, worldwide and without payment, to describe and promote our treks. We will credit you where you ask us to, and we will remove any image on request — just email us and it comes down.

You confirm that anything you send is yours to send, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights or show a third party who has not agreed to appear.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the People's Republic of China, and the courts at the place of business of Beijing Seeker Adventure International Travel Agency Co., Ltd. have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

Nothing here removes statutory rights you have as a consumer in your own country. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts, and nothing in these terms affects your right to do so.

If any provision of these terms is found to be unlawful or unenforceable, that provision is treated as deleted and the rest continues in force. If we do not enforce a right on one occasion, we do not lose it.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page at the time you book is the version that applies to your booking, and we will not change it retrospectively to your disadvantage. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
