These are our complete guided itineraries. They do not describe every independent route, short visit or operator’s package in these destinations.

How the walking differs

Our Tiger Leaping Gorge itinerary includes two main walking days, around 12 km and 13 km, between arrival and departure days. The gorge-side setting is a major part of the experience. Moderate still means climbing and sustained time on your feet.

Our Yubeng itinerary includes the approach through Ninong, a Sacred Waterfall walk, a Glacier Lake walk and the return. Walking days are roughly 13–14.5 km, with substantial ascent or descent. You should be comfortable with repeated mountain walking days.

Altitude is a separate decision

Yubeng’s higher walking terrain and overnight stays deserve attention beyond the distance comparison. Fitness and familiarity with long walks do not establish medical suitability for altitude. Read the daily itinerary, tell us about relevant experience, and discuss health concerns with a qualified medical professional before booking.

Tiger Leaping Gorge has a lower walking high point on this itinerary. That is a useful comparison, rather than a promise that a route will be easy or risk-free.

Time, lodgings and onward travel

Both itineraries start and end in Lijiang, but Yubeng needs two more days and includes the longer journey towards Feilaisi and Meili. Its guesthouse stays support repeated walks from the village. Tiger Leaping Gorge moves through gorge-side accommodation and the Haba foothills.

Leave room around a mountain itinerary for travel changes. Confirm the meeting time, expected return and rooming arrangements before committing to flights. A six-day trip should be assessed as six days of travel and trekking, not six identical walking days.

Which is the better fit for you?

Start with Tiger Leaping Gorge if your main priorities are a gorge landscape and a shorter itinerary. Consider Yubeng if Meili is the reason for your trip and you have the time and preparation for a more demanding route. Neither is automatically the better choice for every visitor.

Read the live route pages for prices, proposed dates, inclusions and day-by-day details. Conditions and availability can change; we confirm the route and quotation in writing before payment. If neither fits, compare the other Yunnan routes rather than forcing a choice between these two.

About this guide

The itinerary comparisons use China Hike’s published routes and booking terms. Figures describe our itineraries, rather than every route at a destination. Confirm operating arrangements and the written quotation for your dates.
